Brag#20: The Secret Life of Bees

I AM MAJOR EXCITED FOR THIS MOVIE!

QUEEN LATIFAH
(Queen of Talent!)
DAKOTA FANNING
(the kid that makes you wish you wna be her)
JENNIFER HUDSON
(from her winning supporting role for Dreamgirls, and yes I've seen her act - she was brilliant!)
ALICIA KEYS
(I believe this is most likely her FIRST act in a movie so I am pretty excited about that.
In fact during my watch on her video clip of
Teenage Love Affair and You'll Never See Me Again, I had a strong sense she would turn out to be in the movies one day and BAM! here she is with the best actresses in Hollywood!)

SOPHIE OKONEDO
(I've so far only remember her as the 4-handed woman in red from AeonFlux she stared aside with Charlize Theron. But I'm pretty sure she has acted much more outstanding roles in other movies, just that I'm not pretty clear whats it were ... BUT SHE IS REAL GOOD ANYWAY, with out a doubt fosho)

The movie is based from this book by Sue Monk Kidd
(lol at first I spelled it Dikk instead - wtf is wrong with me lol)

Anyhow, The Secret Life Of Bees, is set in South Carolina in 1964, is the moving tale of Lily Owens (Fanning) a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Burton). To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father (Bettany), Lily flees with Rosaleen (Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters (Latifah, Okonedo and Keys), Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping.

So yeah!

Let's see... what can I predict about movie... Hm...
I'm sure they'll involve some singing... I THINK la coz ... there was a black dude sang a lil so its a sign plus you've got Quenn Latifah, Jennifer Hudson & Alicia Keys ! HOW COULD THEY NOT SING! They better sing or else this movie is just going to disappoint meh!
Ok maybe not so disappointing ah... but really, why put 3HREE talented singers in one movie - WHY if its not for that gifted voice box in their throat - tell meh lay-dees and gent-tell-men! lol But the again, its alright if the don't, it's just the thought of having very talented people in one movie is just total awesome sauce, just makes you wna hump to honey comb :D !

And of YES! DAKOTA FANNING is so grown up! She has REAL TITTIES! ITS REAL! Those lil humps are NATURAL REAL TITTIES! She's such a big girl now!
Aaaaaaaaaawe ... *wipes happy tears*
And ohmahgawdness, for an early teenager, she can pull of an accent like that and she did so majorly well like she just blew me with ommahgawded away!
See what I mean how effing gifted she is and makes you so jealous you just want to be her!? I've adore DF since ... hm... since all her movies, the year when Hide & Seek came out.
I sooooo really hope she doesn't end up like Lohan or that one hit wonder kid from ET, I really hope she becomes waaaay succesful than Drew Barrymore (I love Barrymore, she's so cuteness)

Anyhow, since the movie is based from a book, this movie SHOULD be really good like major major good... More than major good, somewhat to ultimate awesome sauce covered on awesomeness.
This movie better not let me down, the trailer has got hooked and I can't wait to check it out.
ALL MOVIES BASED FROM BOOKS ARE AWESOMENESS! ... except for Harry Potter because they've chopped down a WHOLE lot from the original story line - betches.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS MOVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

oh, and also a Singaporian indie movie which Siti Danisa Mahmud (I named her that) has starred in The Funeral Party, which she said it's a dark comedy, I like dark comedy, Tim Burton for the win!
So
DENISE CHAN, the girl I met in My Chemical Romance mosh pit back in 9Dec'07, I'm still stalking you *secretly evil LOL*
... and King-ky <3
lol and oh yes - before you, my dear readers, about to dial for the FBI saying you've found a stalker, better don't.
I'm just Denise's
personal stalker, we're friends - we talk, we don't run after each other with a Chicken Rice Butcher Knive. LoL

Plot

The film introduces seventeen-year-old Megan (Lyonne), a high school senior who loves cheerleading and is going steady with football player boyfriend Jared. She does not enjoy kissing her boyfriend, and prefers looking at her fellow cheerleaders. Her family and friends suspect that Megan is a lesbian, and with the help of ex-gay Mike (RuPaul), surprise her with an intervention. Following this confrontation, Megan is sent to True Directions, a "reparative therapy" camp which uses a five-step program (similar to Alcoholics Anonymous' Twelve-step program) to attempt to convert its campers to heterosexuality.

At True Directions, Megan meets the founder, Mary Brown (Moriarty), Mary's son Rock and the group of young people trying to "cure" themselves of their homosexuality. At the prompting of Mary and the other campers, Megan agrees that she is a lesbian. This fact, at odds with her religious upbringing, distresses her and she puts every effort into becoming straight. Early on in her stay at True Directions, Megan discovers two of the boys, Dolph and Clayton, making out. She panics and screams, leading to their discovery by Mike. Dolph is made to leave and Clayton is punished by being forced into isolation.

The True Directions program involves the campers admitting their homosexuality, rediscovering their gender identity by performing stereotypically gender-associated tasks, finding the root of their homosexuality, demystifying the opposite sex and simulating heterosexual sex. Over the course of the program, Megan becomes friends with another girl at the camp, college student Graham (DuVall). Two of Mary's former students encourage the group to rebel against her. The ex-ex-gays Larry and Lloyd take the campers to a local gay bar where Graham and Megan's relationship develops into a romance. When Mary discovers the outing, she makes them all picket Larry and Lloyd's house, carrying placards and shouting homophobic abuse.

Megan and Graham sneak away one night to have sex. When Mary finds out, Megan, now at ease with her sexual identity, is unrepentant. She is made to leave True Directions and goes to stay with Larry and Lloyd. Graham, afraid to defy her father, remains at the camp. Megan and Dolph, who is also living with Larry and Lloyd, plan to win back Graham and Clayton. They go to the True Directions graduation ceremony where Megan performs a cheer for Graham and tells her that she loves her. They drive off with Dolph and Clayton. The final scene of the film shows Megan's parents (Stole and Cort) attending a PFLAG meeting to come to terms with their daughter's homosexuality.

Brag#3 : Penelope

Penelope, a movie my 0.5 (bff @ Aida) mentioned to me about a movie starring Christina Ricci, Catherine O'Harra, James McAvoy & Reese Witherspoon.
What caught our eye was the combination of CR + RW in one movie, we're both big fans of these actress, they do real good.

The movie is oh-so cutely romantically funny in its own fairytale-like of style has simply won over my heart. It's like a children story for everybody, even adults would be able to relate to it. It's THAT good!

Well since I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton, but this movie is as good as TimB's ingenious creativity. The director of this movie is by Mark Palansky & produced by Reese Witherspoon herself [that's hawt].

Plot

Generations ago, a witch placed a curse on the Wilhern family that would result in the next girl being born into the clan having the face of a pig. For generations, only sons were born into the family, until approximately twenty-five years ago, when Penelope (Christina Ricci) was born, stricken with the curse. It is said that the curse can only be lifted if one of her own learns to love her, which is interpreted by her parents to mean a blueblood. When a tabloid reporter named Lemon (Peter Dinklage) begins stalking the family to get a photograph of the infant Penelope, her parents, Jessica (Catherine O'Hara) and Franklin (Richard E. Grant), cloister their daughter away in their mansion, where Penelope spends her life immersing herself in intellectual pursuits such as literature, horticulture and music. Now an adult, Penelope's parents attempt to introduce her to possible rich suitors, hoping that one of them will fall in love with her and break the curse. Unfortunately, every man who lays eyes on the girl takes flight at first sight, never to return, including Edward Humphrey Vanderman III, a spoiled, cruel-hearted snob who finds her repulsive.

Vanderman teams up with Lemon and the team goes out to find someone who can get into the house for a picture. They mistakenly take Johnny (James McAvoy), an unrepentant gambler with a heavy heart, for Max (Nick Frost), who agrees to help Lemon and Vanderman snatch a photograph of her for money. When "Max" meets Penelope, however, he is unexpectedly caught off guard by her disarming charm, and decides to renege on his agreement with Lemon and Vanderman, realizing that their attempt to exploit Penelope is repugnant, but Penelope interprets "Max's" ambivalence to mean that he too finds her monstrous. She decides to flee the protection of her parents' home, and journeys out into the city, naive and ignorant of the world from which she has been sequestered her entire life. Having no money, and seeing that Lemon and Vanderman are publicly offering a reward to anyone who can produce a photograph of her, she decides to collect on the reward by producing a photo of herself, essentially coming out of hiding to the public.

Vanderman's father, seeing the public's fondness for Penelope and embarrassed by his son's vocal cruelty toward her, coerces Edward into proposing to her. Penelope nearly marries him, but backs out of the wedding at the last minute. When her mother urges her to marry him, lest she be forced spend the rest of her life with her current appearance, Penelope exasperatedly tells her mother that she likes herself the way she is. At that moment, she is enveloped by magical energy, and when it dissipates, her pig snout and ears are gone.

Penelope moves on with her life, becoming a horticulturist and teacher, the spectacle of her former appearance forgotten by the public. At a costume party at which she wears a porcine mask, she meets Max, who, unaware of her transformation, apologizes for not being able to break her curse, although it is obvious he is still in love with her. Removing her mask, she reciprocates his feelings, and the two begin a romance.

The film ends with Johnny pushing Penelope on a swing after teaching a horticulturial class. Lemon, the reporter is about to take a picture on a nearby paddle boat and decides to call it even for once.
